It’s time to uncover the best of the best new crop in Aussie metalcore. You need not look no further than Sydney four-piece Harroway. These lads are freshening up the Aussie metal landscape this year and for good reason. Let’s dive into their ravishing debut EP, shall we?
Opening track ‘Origin’ kicks in and she’s a meaty offering from the get-go. From the synth bass beats to the thundering riffs, Matt’s vocals sound super impressive and we are honestly so hooked. It’s almost on a similar standard to heavyweights Northlane and Alphawolf, with this notion cemented on follow-up track ‘Parasite’. I particularly love how the melodies over the chorus feels so seamless next to the dark, metaphoric clouds of anger of the verses. This track is going to see mosh pits come alive in a live setting!
Midway into the EP is ‘Burn It All’ and it’s an eye opening tune into the band’s more melodic side. The moody yet hopeless lyrics, juxtaposed against the heavy guitars and almost-breakdowns will put this song on everyone’s rotation, while ‘Impulse’ is going to send the pit into chaotic spins with its thumping breakdowns.
The boys could have easily ended the EP on that note, but nope! EP closer, ‘Once More’ kicks in with an ever dramatic extended intro that leads into an alternative nu-metal ambience. At over five minutes, there is no doubt that Harroway are no doubt making their sound heard across all ears this year.
I Don’t Want To Be Here Anymore is a stellar debut from a band who are destined for great things. If you’ve been feeling a lull in your heavy music sessions recently, Sydney’s Harroway will reignite that spark and make you fall in love with the genre all over again. This is a crushing start for an act who are only getting started.
Harroway is: Matt Banks (vocals), Anthony Carnell (guitar), Jordan Sheriff (bass) and Jack Palmer (drums)
Rating: 8/10
