Merely six months after releasing their debut album Postcard From A Living Hell, Sydney pop/punk quartet RedHook are ready to hit accelerate on their next musical chapter with brand new single ‘Tourist‘.
The track follows along a similar rhythm as their previous hit ‘Imposter‘, featuring glimmers of pop melodies and crunchy yet smooth guitar riffs laden throughout. The best part about the whole track though is the unapologetic, fuck-you-anthem feels which gives us a reason to sleep sound at night.
Lead vocalist Emmy Mack looks like the absolute boss bitch she is on the cabaret-styled music video as she shares her inspiration behind the band’s latest hit:
“I wrote the lyrics and top-line for ‘Tourist’ in the middle of our tour with In Hearts Wake last year while going through a breakup of a two-year relationship. But it was more than just a breakup; it was a grueling process of digging the shrapnel of two years’ worth of nuclear love bombing out of my heart and processing the shattering revelation that this person who had so aggressively and relentlessly professed to love me, and who had worked so hard to sell me on the dream of a happy future together, had been lying and cheating the entire time. So this is my Olivia Rodrigo moment, the pour-your-guts-out breakup anthem, the song I wrote for myself to stay strong, walk away, and not get lured back in by any more lies or emotional manipulations.”
Honestly, we’re still frothing tracks like ‘Soju‘ and ‘Imposter‘ practically on a daily basis, so this one is going straight to the top of the repeat hitlist. ‘Tourist‘ is that punchy break-up anthem you didn’t realise you needed in your life.
There are absolutely zero signs of this act slowing down anytime soon, that’s for sure. It drops just as RedHook are set to round up their massive year at Froth & Fury Festival in Adelaide before heading out on the 2023 edition of Spilt Milk Festival which kicks off next weekend in Canberra and the Gold Coast.
