Alternative rock/metal outfit Bad Omens are back this week with an intriguing concept single titled ‘V.A.N.’ The song also features alt-pop singer Poppy, who acts as the main protagonist in this unique post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller fairytale.
Short for “violence against nature”, the track is conceptualized and inspired by artificial intelligence. Poppy’s vocals take us on a rollercoaster journey of highs and lows with the band interjecting that journey through distressed guitars and fast-paced drumming. Vocalist and lyricist Noah Sebastian explains the song’s concept even further:
“That’s a song that started just with the hook ‘Violence against nature’, and then after saving the project with the acronym and seeing it, we realised it could be fun to think of ‘VAN’ as a name. Thus the rabbit hole of ideas began that led us to decide to write lyrics from the perspective of an artificial intelligence gone rogue.”
‘V.A.N.’ is the first to appear from Bad Omen’s forthcoming album, The Concrete Forever Project. If you’re a ride-or-die of the band, you’ll definitely want to be all over this one.
