Sydney/Eora alternative/punk four-piece RedHook are back to raising their horns in the most badass way with their infectious new single ‘Breaking Up With‘.
Luring in with all that swagger from the band’s debut album, Postcard From a Living Hell, this catchy earworm will have you singing alongside Emmy Mack from the rooftops. Alongside those heavy guitars, they’ve also brought in some glistening saxophones that makes the track sounding almost as sexy as one of the band’s biggest releases to date, ‘Bad Decisions‘.
Furthermore, ‘Breaking Up With‘ is an uplifting notion of being kinder to yourself. Rather than playing up the constant negative vibes that does tend to get old after a while, Emmy finally feels content in accepting past mistakes and turning over a new leaf:
“This song is pretty much the antithesis of our most popular single ‘Bad Decisions’. Rather than revelling in being a total piece of shit, this one is about breaking that cycle of self-hate, forgiving your past mistakes, and just deciding to be bloody kinder to yourself. Lyrically, it takes the piss out of break-up cliches to signify ending that toxic relationship (with, you know, yourself) and starting fresh. I hope everyone who vibed with ‘Bad Decisions’ will also be shaking their hips in the moshpit to this one.”
– Emmy Mack, RedHook
While it does look a little quiet on the touring front for the band, it does sound like ‘Breaking Up With‘ is destined to be a moshpit favourite down the track. I’d say watch this space because you never know when RedHook will be hitting a city near you.
