With already two sharp singles out, Yours Truly are the endearing alternative/pop punk act they were born to be in 2024. As we edge closer to the band’s sophomore LP, Toxic, released on August 16, Mikaila Delgado, Teddie Winder-Haron and drummer Henry Beard remain cool and collected with their third single of the year, ‘California Sober‘.

 

Acting as a throwback to the band’s earlier material, ‘California Sober‘ feels like a retrospective insight into their life over the past few years. As they develop into mature aged adults, the trio remain stuck in their youth, while manoeuvering their way through the anxiety we feel in simple activities like socialising with friends.

“California Sober is the essence of trying to be present with your friends and loved ones. You don’t have to just put on this facade, this mask, and hide yourself away.

 

 

“We were mucking around, playing guitar, and Mikaila started singing about when you come over and your friends are stoned; just sitting there, not wanting to do much. It’s all good and fun, but you can’t enjoy other people’s company and think “I’m not good enough to hang out with.”

An ode to feeling present in the moment when surrounded by family and friends, this latest release sees Yours Truly remain at the top end of the pop punk scene with prolific hooks and mature songwriting while still embodying that youthful spirit.
