Upstate NY pop punkers State Champs are heading back to basics for their first single in two years, ‘Silver Cloud‘. It marks the beginning of their fifth album and for this one, the boys are finally giving us that self-titled LP. The album drops November 8 via Pure Noise Records.
When a band presents a self-titled record, it usually pinpoints a highly vulnerable, self-revealing time for a band where they’re preparing to give fans some of their most honest work yet. For State Champs, they’ve flourished magnificently and gained strength to strength with each album and seemingly perfected that edgy pop punk sound we’ve fallen in love from the early formations of The Finer Things and Around the World and Back right through to cementing their toptier status on Living Proof and coming out on top as the Kings of the New Age.
“We found our way, through the ups and downs within us, personally and as a band, and wanted to express that. This is the right time to showcase it.”
– Derek DiScanio, State Champs vocalist
‘Silver Cloud‘ sends a familiar soundwave straight to your neural system in the form of a familiar riff that continues the edginess of Kings of the New Age. A punchy, prolific track about living for the weekend in the mundane, those soaring hooks and catchiness kinda also throw a vibe back to The Finer Things era.
The band have also offered a second new track titled ‘Too Late to Say‘, another fresh cut of State Champs’ well-loved, memorable material. If we are going by these two songs alone, we are looking at their deepest, most defined era yet.
