Sunday 16 February
Supports: Belle Haven, Verum
As December Falls finished their first ever Australian tour in Brisbane on a hot, humid evening this past Sunday at The Brightside (everyone’s favourite emo church) with a very dedicated and energetic crowd. Their debut east coast run also included one of our favourite Aussie emo band, Belle Haven and local post-punk act Verum.
Verum opened the stage with their first show of the year to an already filled out room by the time they had started their set. Verum filled the room with high energy grungy post-punk, with their more recent release ‘Rose‘ a crowd favourite. We are really hoping to see more of these guys in the near future!
Melbourne emo favourites Belle Haven took the stage next. Although, tonight they were a bit flatter than usual, frontman David De La Hoz put on a fun set for the fans prepping them for what was to come.
As December Falls, a completely self managed band from Nottingham, UK, brought with them a high energy modern flavour of pop punk that did not disappoint their dedicated and equally as energetic crowd who were already chanting, “ADF, ADF, ADF…”.
After opening with ‘Ride‘, a personal favourite of mine, the crowd enjoyed multiple breakdowns, moshpits, circlepits, sing alongs and a tonne of crowd interaction in the sweaty venue up until it was time for the encore when guitarist Ande Hunter said, “It’s that point in the set where we go back stage and play adult peek a boo while you chant for one more song, but we’re not doing that.”
This did not stop the crowd chanting for three more songs. The band’s most recent track ‘Therapy‘ was up next and vocalist Beth Hunter had the whole floor bouncing. Australia’s pop punk and emo crowd are very excited to them come back soon for round two.
