Melbourne pop punk outfit Paperweight have burst out of their cave of hibernation today with brand new single ‘Sunset Suburbia‘. The track is a nostalgic trip down memory lane to the band’s penultimate year of 2022 where they achieved some huge successes, like opening for State Champs and The Maine.
“‘Sunset Suburbia‘ is a vivid snapshot of fleeting highs and quiet heartbreaks, it dives into the haze of chasing memories and moments before they slip away. It was a song written in 2022 right in the midst of what turned out to be such a crazy year for us as a band, in many ways feeling like we had achieved “The Dream” and had done what we set out to do. The highest of highs in the moment, and the lowest of lows once it was over, a modern portrait of nostalgia I guess…. And a great theme to tackle in a song, we’re all stoked with how it turned out!”
– Haris Korpetutuncu, Paperweight vocalist
Recorded and produced by Stevie Knight, this one-off single combines all of the high-octane riffs, earworm hooks and unapologetic energy we love hearing from Paperweight. Even in 2025, this four-piece is still swinging harder than most in the local scene. Those big breaks they scored in 2022? It’s about time they came back around, and then some.
Paperweight performed at last year’s inaugural mini-fest Pizza Planet alongside Cordiform and Drastic Park. While nothing else is planned outside of this surprise song drop, fingers crossed the band’s presence continues to grow and expand from today.
