Tixel x Bolster Ticketing State of Play 2025 is in and… Are News Media Outlets Fading?

Once upon a time, music and entertainment news sites were the go-to for tour announcements. But fast forward to 2025 and that is no longer the case. According to 3000 fans and 11 industry experts who were surveyed in Tixel & Bolster’s Ticketing State of Play Report, only 11% of fans found out about artists touring through news media publication (like ourselves). So you know, it does kinda hurt that our space is almost becoming obselete as the radio.

Most fans are relying on social media posts direct from the horse’s mouths and that is anyone from the event promoter, the venue, the ticketing partner or the band/artists themselves. The way fans discover news and tours is shifting fast and music media needs to evolve to keep up. That could mean leaning further into social platforms, giving artists and bands bigger voices amid the noise and reinspiring fans with content that cuts through.

The role of music media isn’t dead, but it’s definitely ready for an evolution. Here at PitPass.com.au, we’re the new blood in the Australia’s heavy music scene and we’re relentless go-getters who are ready to shake things up in this space. Game on.
