The South East Queensland music scene is making some huge moves this week. Just two days ago we checked out Brisbane pop/punk by way of Two Times Shy and now, we are heading an hour south to the Gold Coast to shed light on One Last Hurrah.
Consisting of members from Brisbane punk acts We Set Signals, The Black Catapult and A Somerset Parade, One Last Hurrah are an alternative/post-hardcore band combining their love of metal together with the youthful spirit of pop punk. If you’re into the heavier side of the genre (think Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! and A Day to Remember), we reckon the band’s debut track, ‘Mermaid Beach’ is going to be well worth your time.
The song crashes the scene in hot pursuit with punchy riffs and some added chug to bless your ears with what feels like the moshpit anthem of your summer. Blending easycore antics with the fun of pop punk is still pretty niche and might have some of the metalcore listeners scratching their heads. But bands like One Last Hurrah aren’t here to give a damn what you think; they’re out here making seering pop punk for ones that matter. The band share:
“We’re a bunch of punk-rock tragics who grew up in the noughties having fond memories revolving around the skate and surfing scene on the Gold Coast. ‘Mermaid Beach’ is a hard hitting pop punk track telling a story of love while shouting out surfing culture on the GC.”
‘Mermaid Beach‘ is evidence that good things can exist on the Gold Coast. Go on, hit play below and have a mosh.
