If there’s any city in Australia carrying the heavy music torch in 2023, it’s gotta be Brisbane. After hearing the news that CVLTFEST will be setting up shop in Queensland for the 2024 edition, the city is going to be in front of everyone’s eyes from hereon out and what better way to do that than to introduce you to Brissie alt/post-hardcore outfit East Capri.

While this trio landed on the scene back in 2021 with debut EP Wake N Repeat, East Capri are going to turn heads with brand new single ‘Veil Vision‘. From its post-apocalyptic feel in the music video to the smooth, melodic flavours of vocalist Eden Cartwright, this track is up there with the best of the best in the heavy landscape. Cartwright also manages to expose the struggles of baring deep emotion and connection through its lyrics:

“‘Veil Vision’ is about being unable to see or admit to the toxicity that was ever-present in the relationship. It’s about that constant battle between intense deep emotional connection and passion, versus self-doubt, emotional depletion and the intoxicating addiction to her approval.”

What we’re honestly vibing here though is the mesh of pop sensibility and nu-metalcore grooves that builds into quite the tantalising breakdown. While it’s not quite on that level just yet, East Capri are showing all the signs that they are making all the right moves. This is a sick take and can slide right in amongst the best of I Prevail and We Came As Romans.
