Ocean Grove Engage in Powerful Emotions on ‘LAST DANCE’

Having just wrapped an explosive headline tour up the east coast last weekend, Ocean Grove have opted for a quieter change of pace with new single ‘Last Dance‘. It is the fourth track to drop from their upcoming record ODDWORLD that is due out November 22 (UNFD).

While previous singles ‘My Disaster’, ‘Raindrop’ and the incredible ‘Fly Away‘ saw a return to their roots, ‘Last Dance‘ offers fans and new listeners an enthrilling, captivating experience. From the first notes, we’re immersed in a wave of sensual and glistening melodies that manage to balance the vocal ranges of band members Dale Tanner and Twiggy Hunter.

“We knew this song was going to be a really important opportunity for storytelling. We felt the impact of how powerful the music was before any lyrics were written and this warranted an equally powerful motif. We all sat down in the bunkbeds of the farmhouse we had converted into a home studio, with a setting sun and determination to not leave the room until we had an arrangement of words proportionately epic.

LAST DANCE emerged as an apocalyptic symphony of sorts. It grapples with this idea of facing the death moment, whether that be of the planet or a loved one, and how we can be presented with one last opportunity for a loving embrace, and a conscious presence in that confronting reality. It’s the anthem for any listener to find solace and deeper meaning in the inevitable impermanence of everything.”

– Dale Tanner, Ocean Grove

The boys kicked off their short headliner last weekend at Brisbane’s The Triffid alongside Paledusk, Inertia and Sunbleached and we were in attendance. While ‘Last Dance‘ didn’t make a sneaky live debut in the set, Ocean Grove managed to impress onlookers with the live debut of ‘Raindrop‘ amidst an ultra-cool setlist of the band’s explosive nu-metal offering. Of course, ‘Ask For the Anthem‘ still remains to be one of our favourite moshpit anthems today.

Main support act Paledusk, who travelled all the way from Japan to play to their rapidly growing fanbase down under, also made a massive impression on many that night. Easily delivering one of the biggest circlepits that night, frontman Kaito performed songs like ‘I’m Ready to Die For My Friends‘ with an energy so contagious, it was hard not to ignore the band’s strong, vibrant presence.
