Good Charlotte Break the Silence with Comeback Anthem ‘Rejects’

Last week, pop-punk royalty Good Charlotte crawled out of their cave of hibernation, announcing their long-awaited return with a brand-new album Motel Du Cap, due out August 8. Now, the first taste of that record has landed. If Rejects is anything to go by, it’s set to rocket them straight back to the top of the alt-punk pyramid.

Luring us into a tempestuous shift of energy that echoes their Chronicles of Life and Death era, Good Charlotte’s new single Rejects is equal parts throwback and forward thrust. It’s a blistering reminder of their roots offering up loud guitars and thunderous drums, but has been reimagined for a 2025 landscape where punk carries new weight.

“Life is bigger, now the words can hurt / I’m talking to myself, wishing I was in the dirt,” Joel Madden sings, digging deep into themes of identity, alienation and inner turmoil. The lyrics strike with a raw sincerity, delivering an anthem that feels custom-built for a new generation of outsiders.

Though far removed from the angsty teens who broke out in ’99, Joel and Benji Madden have tapped into something timeless here. Despite the accolades, the independent musical ventures and their industry longevity, Rejects proves that the Maddens still remember what it means to feel unseen and that’s what makes their return hit as hard as it does.

Rejects‘ will appear on Good Charlotte’s forthcoming album, Motel Du Cap. Check out the full album when it drops August 8.
